WHAT SAFETY REGULATIONS APPLY TO THE FOOD INDUSTRY?

Anybody involved in the food industry, must work to a series of strict regulations that help ensure the safety and compliance of food and drink, along with colleague and customer health and safety.

In addition to applicable health and safety legislation, organisations must meet their obligations under food law, which makes it an offence for anyone to sell or process food which could be harmful to health.

Regulations include:

  • Food Safety Act 1990
  • The General Food Regulations 2004
  • The Food Safety and Hygiene Regulations 2013
  • Food Information Regulations 2014
  • EC Regulation 852/2004

To meet these requirements, a written food safety management plan and procedures, based on HACCP principles, must be put in place, implemented and maintained.
