Training Academy Expansion Demonstrates Our Commitment to Training

10/04/18

Bureau Veritas has expanded its Training Academy, revolutionising the way in which new starters are trained across all engineering disciplines.

Initially launched for mechanical engineers last summer, the Bureau Veritas Training Academy uses a number of modern training delivery methods blended with classroom theory, workshop experience and modern assessments to enhance the training given to new engineer recruits.

Representing a safer approach to engineer training, the Training Academy now has classrooms, workshops and all the plant needed to deliver the relevant engineer training, as well as access to a coded welder for NDT and repair work.

Equipment for all disciplines

The vast range of equipment covers forklift trucks, scissor lifts, spider/crawler cranes in various sizes and vehicle lifts, as well as a rescue winch, various fall arrest equipment, mobile gantry, pressure pumps and chain blocks. There is also a tank for confined space training, equipment for working at heights and a climbing tower – delivering a complete solution for training across our vast range of engineering disciplines.

This enhanced training provision enables easier scheduling of trainees, a better trainee experience and has dramatically reduced training time – all resulting in greater efficiency, improved safety and a better standard of service for our clients.

Transforming engineer training

Kyle Veitch, TQR director at Bureau Veritas, said: “We recognise the importance of training as we continue to deliver on our ambitious growth programme and the development of this facility has been a significant investment that has already transformed our approach to engineer training. What’s more, the expansion to cover all engineering disciplines is a fantastic demonstration of its early success.

“Previously we had focused on a ‘buddy up’ approach to training, which gave new recruits the experience they need in the field, but it was time intensive for all involved. The launch of the Training Academy last year enabled us to introduce classroom based learning, within a carefully selected location which can provide access to the majority of asset types we will need.

“It means we can deliver an intensive, enhanced training programme for our new engineers, within a better learning environment, which is not only safer but significantly reduces the time to train - and all this without compromising on the quality of our excellent training.”

Maintaining standards

David Hudson, Engineer Trainer for Bureau Veritas, said: “After the initial launch we quickly identified the scope of courses that we would be able to offer our trainees in this class-leading facility and we have worked hard to deliver this expansion.

“I now work with experienced colleagues from across the business to deliver training across many of our core disciplines, making the most of the expertise and facilities available within the organisation to ensure that we maintain our excellent standards.”
