Supporting Power & Utilities Companies with Acoustics & Vibration Services

24/11/17

Strict legislative obligations may be driving OEMs to design and manufacture lower noise level equipment, but for those operating in the power and utilities sectors the complex challenges of controlling noise and vibration remain front of mind.

With a range of heavy equipment and machines operating in all conditions, it can be increasingly difficult to meet acoustics and vibration obligations, including achieving compliance with the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005. Fortunately the Bureau Veritas dedicated Acoustics & Vibration Group is here to help.

Combining expert regulatory insight with vast experience of all power and utilities sectors, we help organisations to achieve compliance with legislation and best practice.

We work in partnership to assess noise and vibration exposures, implement strategies and improve employee health and safety, all as part of a full range of consultancy services that reduce risk and help build responsible, safe and sustainable businesses for our clients.

Controlling risk of exposure

Ric Cope, technical director of Acoustics & Vibration at Bureau Veritas, said: “The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 have been in place for more than ten years now, but we are still seeing compliance breaches in the workplace, with record fines handed out by the Sentencing Council last year.

“It has never been more important for organisations to understand, assess and control the risk of exposure to noise and vibration in the workplace. And that’s why more and more organisations are turning to the independent, third party expertise of the expert Bureau Veritas team.”

Full suite of services

With experience across all power and utilities sectors including renewable energy, power generation, power transmission and water, the Bureau Veritas Acoustics & Vibration Group offers a full range of consultancy services.

This includes assessing the exposures and risks from noise in the workplace, undertaking on-site risk assessments in accordance with the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 and developing and implementing a successful noise control engineering strategy. Our team also works with clients to help reduce noise levels in the workplace to as low as reasonably practicable, identify at risk personnel and establish the best methods to remove or minimise that risk.

Ric Cope adds: “It’s imperative that employers are vigilant and stay on top of health and safety obligations, ensuring that an appropriate and adequate strategy is in place, which in-turn will protect employees and help achieve long-term compliance.

“Understandably, it can be overwhelming for companies to manage this process, which is why we provide the experience, knowhow and professional expertise required.”
