Have you embedded sustainability into your supply chain?

10/10/18

The importance of a strategic and sustainable supply chain for companies has grown substantially over time. ISO 20400:2017, launched in April 2017, provides a frame of reference for companies to address sustainability needs of their supply chain. A globally recognised and accepted framework for companies, ISO 20400:2017 standardises definitions and provides robust approaches that can be adopted for organisations of any sector and size.

How ISO 20400:2017 helps companies implement sustainable procurement initiatives

ISO 20400:2017 defines sustainable procurement as ‘procurement that has the most positive environmental, social, and economic impacts on a whole life basis’ and provides a guidance for organisations implementing tangible sustainability objectives in their supply chain.

It enables companies to gauge how well they are performing in terms of their sustainable procurement policy, strategy and management practices. The guidance also helps to mitigate risks and unlock financial, environmental, social, and regulatory opportunities.

In addition, sustainable procurement and supply chain management initiatives are recognised by investors and other stakeholders, increasing a company’s credibility and resilience, and adding value to the brand and to the organisation.

Our journey so far…

With an experienced team of sustainability professionals, Bureau Veritas offers a range of services to support clients to understand the requirements of ISO 20400:2017 and to get evaluated and advised.

We hosted a free webinar in July 2018 and published a white paper last year in partnership with CDP. The white paper, namely “The Road to Sustainable Procurement with ISO 20400: What, Why and How”, brings together two independent experts’ perspectives to provide a comprehensive overview of the new standard.
