CSC: Do You Have the Knowledge?

16/03/17

If you or your organisation have responsibility for ensuring the safe handling and movement of containers or tank containers, it is likely you will have heard of CSC. But do you fully understand its requirements?

Working with transport companies, depots, ports, rail operators, freight companies, shipping lines and more, the Bureau Veritas Transport & Logistics Services team has identified that many organisations do not have the knowledge in-house to meet their obligations.

That’s why we have developed a unique CSC Awareness Course, offering flexible, jargon-free understanding of Container Safe Convention – so your teams can gain the insight they need to undertake inspections with confidence.

What is CSC?

Containers and container tankers must comply with (CSC), which is an ongoing requirement to ensure that the structural integrity of the equipment is maintained when in use. Effectively, it is the container equivalent to a car’s MOT.

CSC can be maintained by examining equipment at designated intervals, or by what is called ACEP (Approved Continuous Examination Programme), which involves an ongoing inspection process.

As with cars, however, a container can pass a CSC inspection but then be structurally damaged the next day. Until is repaired, it is not deemed safe to be handled – and it is the responsibility of the handling party at the time to ensure that the unit is safe to be handled and moved.

Of course a container can be handled and transported via a number of means, by any number of companies, in any single journey. This means transport companies, depots, ports, rail operators, freight companies and shipping lines are amongst those that could be responsible for the safe handling of equipment.

Awareness Course

As one of few inspection bodies offering CSC Awareness Course, our programme is flexible, delivered on your site and tailored to your individual requirements.

They are delivered by our experienced Transport & Logistics Services team, which has vast experience working with a wide range of organisations.

All course includes an explanation of the Container Safe Convention in simple, effective terms, along with details of its background, requirements, inspection criteria and marking of the CSC plates on the containers. We can also offer practical demonstrations relating to the inspection of the equipment and how to apply the criteria during inspection, where facilities allow.

What’s more, as a global leader in testing, inspection and certification services, you can have access to a wide portfolio of additional compliance services to cover all requirements.
