Job Title: Sector Lead – Food

Location: Cardiff

What interested you about a career within Bureau Veritas?

Prior to joining Bureau Veritas I had been working in the food sector for around four and a half years in similar positions to the Sector Lead role that became available. My experience, paired with Bureau Veritas’s size and reputation is what attracted me to the role. The prospect of working globally with the ability to provide my clients with a wider range of service offerings and locations really appealed to me. From a personal viewpoint the reputation of Bureau Veritas and the awards they have won, such as Top Employer, was also a big factor in taking the leap into a new role as I knew I’d be landing in safe hands!

As a Sector Lead what does your current role entail?

My role as a sector lead is to grow the food sector as a whole across the agriculture, manufacturing, retail and beverage industries. I support clients in compliance and help to create tailored solutions, working across business units such as mechanical, electrical and certification, to ensure they remain compliant with current regulations. The relationships I develop with these larger clients are more like partnerships, allowing Bureau Veritas to really understand the needs of our clients and the market.

What are some interesting and challenging aspects of your role?

Learning about the product offerings here at Bureau Veritas was challenging at first as there are so many. However in doing so I enabled a better understanding of the business which allowed for more detailed discussions with my client base on how I can support their needs. My team were really supportive with this during my induction period which I appreciated as it’s helped me with settling into my role.

As a whole, every day and every client, as well as the challenges they face, are different so my role always keeps me on my toes which I enjoy! It is rewarding to be able to offer these tailored solutions to help clients overcome their challenges.

How do you plan to further expand the UK food proposition in line with the business?

My goal is to engage with as many clients as I can to piece together the challenges the food sector currently faces, identifying trends and eventually creating a report on how Bureau Veritas can assist with those challenges. In particular this involves engaging with clients and having conversations around Safe Ops, Safe Supply and Blockchain, highlighting the benefits of these specialist systems and showcasing our expertise and knowledge, allowing clients clearer visibility around the risks in their businesses.

Please describe how you found the induction process.

I have been pleasantly surprised from the point of induction to where I am now in regards to settling in. I’m very impressed with the level of training and communication I have received from my wider network, where I’ve had loads of support and clear training plans. Everything has run very smoothly from my induction which has allowed me to settle in well and begin focusing on my role and the food sector development as a whole.
