Get Recognised for Your Responsible Seafood Practices
Because of its complexity, seafood requires its own dedicated standards in conjunction with existing ones for the food industry.
There is a great diversity of marine species combined with multiple international origins and production methods (fishing or farming).
Bureau Veritas Certification requests four stages of responsibility:
- marine resouces
- quality and food safety
- social practices
We offer a wide range of certification services to ensure:
- your commitment to good fishing and farming practices
- your control of seafood safety, quality, sustainability and traceability
- your engagement with responsible sourcing in your supply chain.
ASC (Aquaculture Stewardship Council) is a certification scheme designed to control the environmental and social impacts as well as the effects on local communities and the welfare of the animals.
There is a standard specific to each of the following species: Pangasius, Tilapia, Mollusks, Salmon, Trout, Shrimp, Abalone, Seriola and Tobia.
ASC aims to be the world's leading certification and labeling program for responsibly farmed seafood.
With ASC certification:
- ensure credibility: the standards are developed according to ISEAL guidelines, multi-stakeholder, open and transparent, science-based performance metrics
- minimize the environmental and social footprint of commercial aquaculture by addressing key impacts
- gain added value: connect the farm to the marketplace through a consumer eco-label.
The GlobalGAP Aquaculture Standard applies to aquaculture products and aquaculture feed.
It sets specific criteria regarding the risk management of:
- food safety
- environment care
- workers and animal welfare
Friend of the Sea (FOS) is an international certification scheme for seafood products from both sustainable fisheries and aquaculture farms.
Producers and traceability are audited on-site (farms and processing plants) by qualified auditors, against three types of criteria:
- environmental impact
- feed quality
- social responsibility
Organic or BIO eco-labels are a solution to show your commitment to responsible fish farming regarding European regulation (No 710/2009 - 889/2008) and other national or private standards developed and recognized in production countries.
Fishing eco-label or sustainable fishing certification
- MSC Certification
The MSC's (Marine Stewardship Council) fishery certification program and seafood eco-label recognise and reward sustainable fishing.
With fisheries, seafood companies, scientists, conservation groups and the public, MSC works to promote the best environmental choice when it comes to seafood.
The MSC joined forces with some of the world's leading retailers, brands and seafood businesses to help them meet customer expectations and increase their sustainable seafood offer.
Bureau Veritas Recognition for Responsible Fishing
Bureau Veritas Recognition is not a certification. It is an independent process to recognise best practices at the fishing vessel level based on “responsible fishing” specifications.
These specifications are prepared by the client with Bureau Veritas' assistance.
